Soya Sauce Substitute

Caution – Molasses is a high potassium food. The amount used in this recipe is acceptable.

Soya Sauce Substitute

Ingredients

1/3 cup
(75 ml) beef broth, no salt added
1/3 cup
(75 ml) red wine vinegar
1 tbsp
(15 ml) molasses
1/4 tsp
(1 ml) ginger, ground
1/2 tsp
(3 ml) garlic powder
1/8 tsp
(pinch) black pepper
1 1/4 cups
(300 ml) water

Directions

Makes 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) – one serving is about 1 2/3 Tbsp (25 ml)

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small pot and boil gently uncovered for 5 – 10 minutes until the mixture is reduced to about 1 1/2 cups (325 ml).
  2. Store covered in refrigerator up to 4 days.
  3. Stir or shake before using.
  4. If you won’t use the full recipe within a week, freeze extra portions in ice-cub trays (or small containers) for later use.
